Meet Anita

I'm Dr. Anita Somani, and I'm honored to serve as your State Representative for Ohio's 8th House District. I'm running for reelection because there's still more work to do.

For more than 30 years, I have cared for women and families as an obstetrician and gynecologist in Columbus. I earned my medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio, completed my OB/GYN residency at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, and am board certified in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). Throughout my career, I have been committed to providing compassionate, top-notch care to patients across Central Ohio.

While I never expected to run for office, the years following the 2016 election and the overturning of Roe v. Wade convinced me that I had to fight for the community I had spent decades serving. Since joining the Ohio House of Representatives in 2023, I have worked to bring a practical, evidence-based perspective to public service and stand up for the issues that matter most to Ohio families.

I believe every Ohioan deserves access to affordable, high-quality healthcare, excellent public schools, and safe communities. Every day, I work to put people over politics and build an Ohio where families can thrive and businesses can succeed.

My husband and I raised our two children in Columbus, where they attended our public schools. Today, our son is an engineer, and our daughter followed in my footsteps to become an OB/GYN. Family, community, and service have always been at the center of my life.

I'm not a career politician. I'm an obstetrician who wants every baby I deliver to have the same opportunities my own children had. That's why I first ran for office, and it's why I'm asking for your support once again.
